John Tanner - John is city born and country raised so considers he has the best of both worlds in his pedigree. He has shorn sheep but was a much better shearing-shed hand, has driven trucks, picked grapes and tomatoes, worked in a bank, post office and for a farm machinery manufacturer before deciding to go back to night school to study and qualify in Accounting. All this means that he has a good understanding of the practical issues both for employees and employers.
He was fortunate to be employed by a brilliant accountant in public practice at Swan Hill and in this environment gained very high marks in company accounting, law and practice and highest marks in Australia in income tax law and practice.
John then spent 10 years in his own practice on the western fringe of Melbourne, chaired the Western Suburbs Public Accountants Group for 3 years before deciding to relocate to the Far South Coast of New South Wales to commence a new practice.
He considers his main strengths to be an ability to keep things simple although this is becoming increasingly difficult in a progressively more complex business environment, and an ability to communicate with clients.
A Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants, John specialises in tax.
Outside the professional field John has played and then umpired Australian Rules football and now mainly focuses on his orchid collection, the activities of the Sapphire Coast Orchid Club and his role as an Orchid Judge.
John is also a Rotarian and is a Past President of the Rotary Clubs of Merimbula and Pambula.
